The JAGO NARI Unnayon Sangsta (JNUS) has organized an inception meeting to inaugurate a project entitled, “Empowerment of Women in Fishing Community of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh for Increasing their Rights in Livelihood” at the Upazilla Parishad Hall Room of Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Cox’s Bazar on 10 October 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Mohammed Zakaria, Upazilla Nirbahi Officer, Cox’s Bazar Sadar, inaugurated the project and addressed the session as the Chief Guest and Md. Koushik Khan, Social Services Officer of Cox’s Bazar Sadar also spoke to the participants. The session was also attended by development partners, women leaders of the fishing community, members of local government, and media personnel.
This project will be implemented in collaboration with local authorities, community leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for vulnerable women in the fishing community. The aim would be to enhance their capacity to address risks, vulnerabilities, and threats in the context of climate justice. The project would also provide a platform to women for advocating for the protection of the marine environment and the conservation of natural resources that are essential for the fishing industry. JNUS hopes to contribute to the development of a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient society in Cox’s Bazar through the interventions of this project.
